WHAT’S IN YOUR GENE POOL?

Reading Lesson: Matthew 1:1, 17; Galatians 3:27-29
Jesus is not only the Son of God; He is also the Son of man. The introduction of His genealogy in Matthew’s gospel confirms His historical existence as a human being, and the son of Abraham. This connection to Abraham is quite interesting and very important. God made a covenant with this patriarch of faith in his old age, when He called him out from Ur of the Chaldees.
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 12:2, 3
God repeated and amplified this covenant in Genesis 17:1-7ff. He even called it everlasting. He promised to bless Abraham and his seed with descendants as the stars of the heavens, great wealth, all the lands of Canaan, and with a lineage of kings. Although Jesus was born forty-two generation after Abraham, this did not nullify or weaken the blessings of the covenant. As the seed of Abraham and the son of the most favored king of the covenanted people of God, Christ was not only entitled to all the rights and privileges of the covenant, but He was destined to rule David’s throne forever (Luke 1: 32, 33).
This same King Jesus became a Prince and Savior to all those who believe in Him (Acts 5:31). As the true Seed of Abraham, Christ carried all the blessing for the generations to come in Himself. While His body remained planted in the earth—after His crucifixion on Calvary—Christ held the future of Israel and all potential believers in Himself until the time of His “germination.” His glorious resurrection on that fateful Sunday morning guaranteed the fulfillment of every covenant blessing upon all the future generations of Abraham.
The Word of God, therefore, confirms that if anyone is in Christ, then he/she is a legitimate child of Abraham, and all that the covenant offers belongs to him/her (Galatians 3:27-29). The distance of your generation from the patriarch, your nationality, ethnicity, sex, color or any other human distinction cannot cancel, change or prevent you from what is rightfully yours in Jesus Christ.
Oh what blessedness! You are indeed Abraham’s offspring and an heir to the everlasting covenant of peace and plenty. Praise the Lord!
